I think this man has been able to put into words what I have so often thought—that a culture based on materialism and "fame" is bound to become bankrupt socially. And so it has been for a very long time. I do hope that those of us who realize this are able, one at a time, to influance others on an individual basis. Such changes do not happen in legislation: they happen in the heart. -Reifyn
perpetualrole.blogspot.comPerpetual Rolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01329782325401479458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6642291883699025551.post-39155876312338437672013-04-20T06:36:04.768-07:002013-04-20T06:36:04.768-07:00Thanks for this great post. Fortunately, there hav...Thanks for this great post. Fortunately, there have been some positive developments since 2007 in public education. The accountability movement has been good for forcing schools to make a real effort to educate all kids to a higher minimum level, but it failed to provide incentives to help capable kids maximize their potential, and did cause some schools to drop or reduce instruction in the arts and humanities. The new Common Core curriculum is raising the bar for all kids in reading, math and science, and to a lesser extent in history/civics. Sadly, the arts remain relatively neglected, but those of us who wish to see enhanced arts education can lend support to our local public school and work to influence our local school board.Brian MacKenziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12752842049666489041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6642291883699025551.post-33827862802076622132013-04-17T14:17:57.131-07:002013-04-17T14:17:57.131-07:00I believe that his thoughts were well spelled out ...I believe that his thoughts were well spelled out regarding the separation of economic and cultural values. *Shrug*Rob Kuntzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17648200357715492214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6642291883699025551.post-79401402518088988562013-04-17T13:37:37.121-07:002013-04-17T13:37:37.121-07:00Hello Torq.

This due mostly, at an educated guess, to their forlorn economic opportunities. Many Ghanians go to school and stay enrolled as long as possible because the job to employee ratio is so astronomically high. This tends to make any other opportunity a dream come reality, no matter the cost, perceived or not, one would have to endure to embrace it.

Rob Kuntzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17648200357715492214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6642291883699025551.post-7131071976199451952013-04-17T13:37:12.664-07:002013-04-17T13:37:12.664-07:00The loss of recognition for artists, thinkers and ...The loss of recognition for artists, thinkers and scientists has impoverished our culture in innumerable ways, indeed. Here in Africa kids walk around listening to music they dont understand, wearing hats and shirts advertising sports teams they have never heard of, all under the banner of some kind of enlightenment. Rob, I know you have been to Africa, so I would be interested in your comments.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00533889883026909389noreply@blogger.com
